Project Overview ✦

53 Cards was accepted into the 57th Juried Student Exhibition at Austin Peay State University.

This brand combines the appeal of playing cards and the elegance of Neoclassical and Baroque design. The aesthetics use three Greek Goddesses as the iconic figures, and Baroque Italian sketches come in as a pattern.

With an air of thrill and mystery, this distillery company features three bottled solutions to their original chocolate-infused vodkas and gin, showcasing their design at its finest.

Breaking Down the Design

Asymmetrical Label Solution

  • The front label resembles a card with the Epson Photo Luster paper, and the back label is leather-like paper. The different materials accentuate the duality of the label solution.

  • The label is composed to have the front label overlap the back label to give a sense of depth. The previous iteration of this label was simple. I challenged myself to curate a label that gets people to pick it up and turn it around – which is the goal.

Greek Goddess Portraits

  • The portraits represent three female icons in Greek Mythology. Medusa symbolizes danger, just like the Ace of Spades card did during the Vietnam War, according to Bicycle’s History.

  • The portraits were generated with Adobe’s AI program Firefly, with the filters indicating a Baroque sketch style of portrait.

Back Label

  • The composition balances the required government warning with other elements like a recycling icon and distribution information with the brand’s identity.

  • There’s a stamped logo emblem to represent the brand and some header art to display where the distillery makes its infused vodka and gin.

53 Cards ensures a sense of thrill with every sip.
